Marigoule Chestnut Tree

Origin: France

Description:The Marigoule Chestnut Tree is a hybrid variety known for its vigor and substantial resistance to chestnut blight, making it a popular choice among growers. This tree produces large, high-quality chestnuts that are sweet and easy to peel. The Marigoule chestnut is particularly noted for its uniform nut size and excellent productivity. The tree has a spreading canopy which allows for ample sunlight penetration and air circulation, enhancing the health and yield of the tree.

Fruit: Marigoule chestnuts are known for their glossy, mahogany brown shells and tender, flavorful meat. The nuts are large, typically weighing 10-12 grams each, with a high kernel-to-shell ratio.

Harvest: Harvest time for Marigoule chestnuts is typically in early to mid-autumn. The trees are prolific producers, often beginning to bear fruit within 3-5 years of planting. Nuts are harvested when they fall to the ground, usually after the first frost.

Pollination: The Marigoule variety is partially self-fertile but benefits significantly from cross-pollination. Planting alongside other chestnut varieties such as Maraval or Bouche de Betizac can enhance nut production.

Spacing: Recommended spacing for the Marigoule Chestnut Tree is about 8 to 10 meters between trees, as they develop large and spreading canopies. Mature trees can reach heights of up to 10 to 12 meters.

Good to know: The Marigoule chestnut tree is adapted to a wide range of soil types but prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soils. It is less susceptible to fungal diseases than other varieties and can tolerate lower temperatures, making it suitable for a variety of climatic conditions. This tree is also an excellent choice for areas prone to chestnut blight due to its high resistance.
